What do we do?

Almost every aspect of our lives impacts our health and wellbeing. Physical activity is any type of exercise or movement that uses your muscles. It can take many forms and includes everyday activities like walking, housework and gardening. All activity will help you maintain or improve your health and wellbeing and increase independence.

Our Health and Wellbeing team is made up of our Health and Wellbeing Manager, Health Development Officers and volunteers. Each team member is passionate about health and wellbeing and creating positive mindsets about how we look at activity. As a minimum, they all have their Level 3 Exercise Referral qualification, with many of our team having or working towards their Level 4 qualification.

How we can help

Referral Programme

Through our referral programme, if you are living with or at risk of a long term physical or mental health condition, you can access 12 weeks of support.

Discounted Memberships

Through the programme you get access to a discount access to our facilities.

Tips from the team

Getting active is a big lifestyle change, here are some tips to get you started:

  • Set manageable goals. Make sure these are achievable for you, this could be going for a walk or taking part in an exercise class.
  • Build your activity levels up gradually.
  • Start taking the stairs if you can, and chose a basket instead of a trolley when doing a small shop.
  • Remember why you started and don’t get disheartened.
  • Avoid comparing yourself with others. Instead reflect on how far you’ve come since you started increasing your activity levels.

Referrals

Your GP or health professional can refer you to our health and wellbeing referral programme, where we’ll help you become more active through enjoyable and engaging activities.
