Move to Level 0 from Monday 19th July

Thursday 15th July 2021

On Tuesday 13th July, the First Minister announced Scotland will be progressing (albeit to a slightly modified) level 0 from Monday 19th July.   In the coming days, enjoyleisure expects to receive further clarification of the new government guidelines via SportScotland and official sporting bodies.

From Tuesday's announcement, the next stage of easing restrictions means that East Lothian’s charitable leisure trust will be able to reduce its current physical distancing measures from 2m to 1m.  This will allow for more equipment to return to Bodyworks gym venues and maximum capacities to increase in the halls, dance studios and gyms, providing more opportunities to the county’s residents to enjoy being physically active.  Additionally indoor adult contact sport can resume.

As soon as possible after the 19th July, enjoyleisure aims to reopen its soft play areas, squash courts and the café at Dunbar Leisure Pool.

Across enjoyleisure’s indoor facilities enhanced hygiene and cleaning measures will continue to be upheld, and both customers and colleagues will be required to wear face coverings in public areas, unless exempt.    At this time, we ask all customers to continue pre-booking activities sessions, in order to comply with Test and Protect measures.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Housebuilder Dandara Provides Boost to Leisure Facilities

Wednesday 19th June 2021

Housebuilder Dandara East Scotland is set to provide a boost to local leisure facilities by funding the cost of equipment to help improve facilities throughout East Lothian.  This support will allow enjoyleisure to invest in new leisure equipment, which especially benefit the county’s youngest residents.

Set to arrive in centres shortly is a set of brand new specialist gymnastics equipment to enhance and expand their existing gymnastics coached activity programme. The programme currently delivers lessons to over 600 children across the county. As well as providing much need replacement equipment, participants will also benefit from new apparatus to help develop their skills.

In addition, the support will also cover the cost of purchasing vital swimming pool platforms used in the delivery of the county’s Learn to Swim programme.   For younger children, entering water which is out of their depth can be very daunting, however these platforms, (which the children stand on), provide both an assurance and confidence boost as children learn this essential life skill – a necessity in this area given the county’s coastal location.

Cricket Update

Tuesday 18th May 2021

Much has been said on social media over the last week about cricket charges in East Lothian, however we feel some background context needs to be provided to present a more complete picture.

At enjoy our mandate is to provide sports, recreation and leisure facilities at fair and equitable prices across communities in East Lothian.  Added to this, we strive to ensure the ongoing viability of our facilities and continually seek to invest and improve our service offering so communities continue to benefit.

We take income generation seriously while ensuring there are minimal financial barriers to participation, so that everyone in our communities has the opportunity to use our facilities.

It should be noted that in terms of the current charges for cricket, that cricket clubs within East Lothian have been and remain heavily subsidised. Considering Tranent & Preston Village Cricket Club, an informal agreement has been in place since 2013, where the club received a reduced charge for use of the cricket pitch.  It is not viable for enjoy to continue this discount in perpetuity.  Instead, we are currently in discussion with local Cricket Clubs who have been invited to put forward their comments for inclusion in our intended cricket prices review.   This will include an appraisal of comparable cricket charges across the country.

Pending the outcome of the review, the current interim charge for all cricket clubs is £50.95 per session.  This is based on a 7-hour booking, equating to £7.28 per hour.  This represents a 3% increase of the fee for 2020/21, which was £49.45 which includes use of changing and showering facilities.

The proposed charge for 2021/22 is £68.60 pitch only, or, £81.90 including changing and showering facilities.  The higher rate equates to £11.70 per hour for a 7-hour session or £0.53 per head, per hour based on two teams of 11 players. These charges remain subsidised to support the continued development of cricket in East Lothian.

When reviewing our charges, enjoy must consider pitch hire, utility cost of pavilions, staffing and building checks.  To ensure the sustainability of community clubs, it is enjoy’s policy to absorb much of these costs, in partnership with East Lothian Council, is to encourage our communities to get active and stay active.   This policy applies to all activities offered by enjoy.

Fitness Classes are Back in Centre!

11th May 2021

Following the Scottish Government’s announcement (Tues 11th May) we’re delighted to confirm our in Centre fitness class programme will be returning as of Monday 17th May.

Please click here for the Fitness Class Timetable PDF   All classes are available to book online or by calling the Sports Centres.

Bill Axon, enjoyleisure Chief Executive comments:

“Tuesday’s Scottish Government announcement confirming a move to Level 2 from Monday 17th May, is brilliant news for our many customers who attend coached classes and is greatly welcomed by everyone at enjoyleisure.  The resumption of group exercise; albeit socially distanced, is a massive boost to our customers and coaches alike; who like many others have been furloughed since Boxing Day.

enjoy’s fitness coaches are eager to return, and we can’t wait to have our halls and studios buzzing with excitement as adults of all ages return for their endorphin releasing boost!   The benefits of group exercise go way beyond the physical elements too.  enjoyleisure’s fitness classes are social affairs.   Friendships are created out of shared interests, motivation levels are enhanced by engaging instructors.  For many, it’s an opportunity for quality “me time”; to energise, relax or de-stress.  For some people it’s an opportunity for ‘real life’ contact (as opposed to virtual) with other people.  It’s important, and maybe even more so with it being Mental Health Awareness week, to recognise the positive social, mental and wellbeing aspects that come from ‘enjoying’ being part of group fitness activities.  It’s a win, win for everyone!”

Continuation of Zoom Classes

Thank you to everyone who completed our Zoom Fitness survey, following your feedback we are delighted to continue to deliver a number of classes over zoom from Monday 17th May onwards – see timetable for more details.

Going forward we will be monitoring all fitness classes on a regular basis and will be modifying and adapting the timetable in line with customer demand.
