Enjoy Leisure Sports Leaders are preparing to inspire the next generation of active youngsters as they launch a new programme of after-school multi-sports sessions in North Berwick, Haddington and Dunbar from Monday 14 September.
The after-school clubs, aimed at children in Primary 1 to Primary 3, will be led by Enjoy Leisure’s newly recruited Sports Leaders. The Sports Leaders programme provides a clear pathway from education into employment, developing a sustainable pathway for future coaches.
Following a recruitment and selection process, ten S6 pupils from across East Lothian have been appointed as Sports Leaders and have been working hard to prepare a range of fun and engaging activities for local children.
Kirsty Lobban, Sports Development Manager, said, “Our Sports Leaders have put together these sessions for children, who can expect to enjoy activities including racket sports, team challenges and much more. The clubs are designed to support the recommendations that children and young people should take part in at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity each day.
“The after-school clubs are the first opportunity for our newly recruited Sports Leaders to put their training into practice. Sessions will give these young people the opportunity to develop leadership, communication and teamwork skills while gaining valuable experience in a real working environment.
“We are incredibly proud to support these young people as they take their first steps into coaching roles, marking the beginning of what we hope will be rewarding and impactful journeys in leadership. By providing them with the mentorship and resources necessary to inspire others, we are not only investing in their personal and professional growth but also helping them nurture the next generation of talent.
“As East Lothian’s health and wellbeing charity, we’re committed to keeping activities affordable for our local communities, with Access to Leisure discount also available for these sessions.”
