Enjoy Leisure, East Lothian’s health and wellbeing charity, will bring together young swimmers from across the county for a day of racing and fun at its first Winter Swim Gala this November.
The new event will take place on Sunday 29 November from 1:00pm to 4:00pm, giving children who are Level 3 and above in the Enjoy Leisure Learn to Swim programme the opportunity to compete in front crawl, back crawl, breast stroke, front crawl relay and a fun relay event.
Kirsty Lobban, Sports Development Manager at Enjoy Leisure, said, “Our swimming programme is something everyone at Enjoy Leisure is incredibly proud of. Each week we welcome over 2,000 children to lessons across East Lothian, helping them build confidence in the water.
“With the Winter Swim Gala, we hope to give more young swimmers the opportunity to experience friendly competition in a fun and supportive environment. Who knows, we may even inspire a future Duncan Scott or Toni Shaw!
“One of the key messages behind the gala is that swimming should be enjoyable for everyone. The gala should encourage team work and it’ll be great seeing so many children come together who have a passion for swimming.
“By opening the gala to children in our Learn to Swim programme, we hope to break down some barriers that can exist around competitive swimming and support more children and young people to take their next steps within the sport.”

Thanks to support from North Berwick Trust, Enjoy Leisure, East Lothian’s health and wellbeing charity has unveiled a new AquaRun at North Berwick Sports Centre. The inflatable obstacle course features a rope swing and a range of challenges that test balance.

Members and visitors at three Enjoy Leisure gyms will soon benefit from new state-of-the-art fitness equipment and refreshed workout spaces as part of a £240,000 investment by East Lothian Council. Work at the three gyms, managed by East Lothian’s health and wellbeing charity Enjoy Leisure, will begin at Meadowmill Sports Centre in September before moving to North Berwick Sports Centre and Dunbar Leisure Pool.
