Dunbar Community Council and CWP Energy are funding 20 places for individuals living with long-term health conditions to participate in Enjoy Leisure’s prescriptive health and wellbeing programme.
The funding will directly support participants in our programme, which helps individuals with various health conditions referred by their GP.
Bill Axon, our Chief Executive said, “We’re extremely proud of our health and wellbeing programme. Since its creation in 2019, we’ve supported over 750 people, with many being referred to us by the NHS.
“The generous support from Dunbar Community Council and CWP Energy is hugely appreciated. As a charity, every penny counts and their funding will help 20 directly referred individuals to begin their journey toward self-managing their condition through exercise.
“The feedback we receive from participants highlights the real impact of these sessions, which includes supported gym sessions and circuit and gentle-movement classes. It’s not just about increased physical activity, it’s also about improved mental health, greater confidence and the friendships they gain.”
Alasdair Swan from Dunbar Community Council, said, “The Community Council is keen to support schemes like this that have a record of helping people back to healthier and happier lives.”
Referral process:
Referrals to the programme can be made by a GP or another healthcare professional.
Individuals interested should speak to their GP about a physical activity referral, who can then begin the referral process.
Once referred, a member of Enjoy Leisure’s health and wellbeing team will be in touch to discuss what the individual hopes to get from the programme and explain the different support options available.
