As part of East Lothian Council’s previously announced £5 million investment in the Loch Centre, major refurbishment works will soon begin at the facility. The year-long project will include the return of Tranent’s much-loved swimming pool, alongside improvements to modernise the centre, enhance the customer experience and secure its long-term future for local communities.
Following a comprehensive review, it was determined that a full closure is the safest and most cost-effective way to complete the essential refurbishment works. The Loch Centre’s final day of operation will be Sunday 6 September, with the facility temporarily closing from Monday 7 September. This reflects reduced activity levels at the site, with the majority of activities already successfully relocated.
There will be no compulsory job losses as a result of the closure. Regular visitors will continue to see familiar faces across Enjoy Leisure sites, with the Loch Centre team being temporarily redeployed to other facilities.
The main refurbishment works are scheduled to begin in early October. Advance works are due to start at the end of August and be completed by the end of September.
Bill Axon, our Chief Executive, said, “As we complete our preparations for these important works, we would like to formally confirm that the Loch Centre will close to the public from 4:30pm on Sunday 6 September and will remain closed until all works are completed in 2027. While we’ll miss welcoming our customers to the site, we’re incredibly excited about what these improvements will deliver for not only Tranent, but the wider community.
“We hope our Loch Centre members and visitors will continue to use our facilities across East Lothian during the closure period. Whether it’s our gyms, swimming pools, sports halls or group exercise classes, there are plenty of opportunities to stay active.
“We can’t wait to welcome the community back to a transformed Loch Centre in 2027.”
Councillor Colin McGinn, East Lothian Council’s Cabinet Spokesperson for Community Wellbeing and Sport, Countryside and Leisure, said, “Funding for this complex and challenging project has come from the council’s capital budget, and our commitment to delivering a modernised Loch Centre of the highest standard will benefit residents from Tranent and surrounding areas for many years into the future.
“We appreciate the patience and understanding of staff and customers and look forward to their return to a revitalised facility.”
