Monday 29th March 2021

As enjoyleisure prepares to unlock its Sports Centre doors and reopen to the public once again from Mon 26th April, customers will be welcomed back to Musselburgh Sports Centre with a new Service Manager at the helm.

After a career in the leisure industry spanning just shy of 25 years; firstly with East Lothian Council; then more recently with charitable, health, wellbeing and Leisure Trust, enjoyleisure; Musselburgh Service Manager Robert Ferguson made the decision to move on to pastures new.

An incredibly valued member of the enjoyleisure operational team, Robert had held the position of Service Manager at Musselburgh since October 2007; having previously held roles as a Leisure Assistant both at Aubigny and Dunbar.  Having served enjoy, its customers and the Musselburgh community for so long, it was with great disappointment that his official send-off required to be a virtual one.  However everyone at enjoyleisure wishes Robert all the very best in his new career.

With a key operational management position vacant; enjoyleisure looked internally to appoint a new Service Manager for the local community.

Following a process of recruitment and selection, it is with great pleasure that enjoyleisure formally announces that Martin Cameron, former Assistant Manager at Dunbar Leisure Pool will be taking over the role as Service Manager for Musselburgh.

Martin Cameron is another ‘well-kent face’ within enjoy, having spent the last 27 years within East Lothian’s leisure services.   Martin first joined East Lothian Council’s SportsPlus team (as it was known at the time) in 1994 as a relief Leisure Assistant at Aubigny Sports Centre, Haddington after leaving Knox Academy.   After making an incredibly good impression, only a few months later, he secured a permanent position at Dunbar Leisure Pool.

Since then, Martin has developed his leisure credentials qualifying as a Learn to Swim teacher, achieving his Pool Plant certification, becoming a Pool Lifeguard Trainer / Assessor and additionally a BodyPump and Spin-Fit Fitness Instructor.   In 2007, he was promoted to Assistant Service Manager at Dunbar Leisure Pool and since then has played a pivotal role in the running and daily operations of the venue.  2021 marks another key milestone in his leisure career, as he progresses up the ladder into the role of Service Manager for Musselburgh.

Speaking about leisure career, Martin Cameron, comments;

“I’ve been incredibly fortunate in my career to date, and have relished the opportunity to develop in different areas; increase my knowledge, skill-sets and experience across the operational aspects of the leisure industry.  As a local lad, I’m also incredibly grateful that I’ve been able to achieve all of this within my home county; firstly with East Lothian Council; then subsequently with enjoyleisure.

It has always been an aspiration of mine to get to this point, and I’m really excited to be taking on this new managerial role and the challenges this will bring.   I’m fortunate to be working with an excellent, experienced team, and I can’t wait to meet them all face to face!

One aspect that I’m most looking forward to, having moved from Dunbar to Musselburgh, is engaging with all the different activity programmes, clubs and groups that utilise the facility.   It’s a very different programme from what I’ve experienced previously, however this was one of the reasons I was so drawn to the role.

Although I will miss seeing my Dunbar colleagues and the lovely customers of the Leisure Pool, I’m sure I will enjoy meeting lots of new faces in Musselburgh.

The Musselburgh team is already taking all of the necessary steps to prepare and safeguard the centre, ready to reopen from April 26th.  We can’t wait to welcome the community back to enjoy sport, fitness and leisure in East Lothian.”

Bill Axon, Chief Executive of enjoyleisure added;

“We are thrilled that Martin will be taking over the role as Service Manager for Musselburgh.

As a long standing employee, we have witnessed Martin progress throughout this career since joining the team in 1994.  It is always an exceptional joy to witness a colleague; so enthusiastic about the industry; continuously learn, enhance and refine their knowledge and subsequently progress their career as a result of the training and learning opportunities offered to them as an employee.

Martin has been an incredible asset to the team at Dunbar Leisure Pool, and brings with him knowledge, enthusiasm and a true commitment to serving the local community, this will stand him in good stead in delivering the level of service across the Musselburgh area.”
