Gymnastics FAQs

Q: How old does my child need to be to join a gymnastics class?
Children must be in Primary 1 or above to join a gymnastics class.

Q: What do they need to wear?
Participants should dress appropriately for physical activity, shorts and t-shirt are perfect, leggings and tracksuit bottoms are also acceptable. Denim, dresses and skirts are not appropriate as they can be restrictive to movement and get caught up in equipment. Please ensure that long hair is tied back, with no hard hair bands. No jewellery is allowed. All gymnasts must have bare feet (no socks) to ensure that the risk of slipping is minimised.

Q: What are the benefits of gymnastics?
Gymnastics works virtually every muscle in the body and is a great way to stay in shape and learn new skills, beyond that though it is a great way to develop physically and socially whilst having lots of fun. Gymnastics is an excellent sport for both boys and girls that develop strength, co-ordination, self confidence and body awareness- skills for life.

Q: Do they need previous experience?
No previous experience is required for our recreational classes and your child can start at any age and coaches can adapt the skills.

Q: What are the term dates?
Gymnastics runs on a termly basis which is parallel to the schools term time dates please click here for details.

Q: How long does a term last?
Depending on which term your child joins, these can last anything between 8 and 10 weeks.

Q: Do I need to stay with my child?
For children under the age of 8, a parent/guardian must remain within the centre but are not permitted to stay in the gym hall. If your child has additional support needs and requires 1:1 supervision then it is advised that the parent is present at the session.

Q: Do I need to book?
All participants are required to register for the class in advance of a block. Two weeks prior to the end of a block, priority registration is available to those currently participating in a block. Thereafter spaces left in classes will be filled from children on the waiting list / opened up to the general public. To secure your child’s place in the class, please book in advance to avoid any disappointment.
