Aubigny Sports Centre’s Swimming Pool in Haddington is gearing up for a fresh new look, as refurbishments plans take shape to upgrade the original 1970s swimming pool hall.

One of East Lothian’s original sports facilities ‘Haddington Swimming Pool’, as it was first known as, opened its doors in September 1974. The much-loved site consists of a 4-lane swimming pool and East Lothian’s only dedicated infant pool. Currently the facility welcomes approximately 1400 bathers to the pool each week for swimming lessons, AquaFit classes, club training, school and public use. Local sports & leisure charity enjoyleisure, alongside partners East Lothian Council are currently working up plans to give the pool hall a much-needed facelift from its existing ‘70s façade. Scheduled to take place over a 9-week period from w/c Monday 22nd April 2019*, the refurbishment will include both essential maintenance and interior décor upgrades. While the pool and health suite will close for the works to take place, the rest of the centre including the gym, dance studio, sports hall and café will remain open. The refurbishment plans include the complete replacement of custom-fit ceiling window panels and a new roof covering. Inside the pool hall, following a complete drain of both pools, a light and bright ceiling covering will replace the outdated wood cladding. A new energy efficient lighting scheme will be fitted which will transform the look and feel of the facility for the benefit of all users. Furthermore, existing wall tiles will be replaced with wall liner panels to complete the fresh new look. enjoyleisure General Manager, Bill Axon comments, “We are delighted to be working with our partners, East Lothian Council, to bring to fruition the upgrade of the pool hall at Aubigny Sports Centre for the benefit of our customers.” “In a coastal county such as ours, being able to swim is a key life skill, as well as delivering numerous health and wellbeing benefits. As East Lothian’s charitable sports provider, enjoyleisure is delighted to offer swimming opportunities across the county. In order to deliver on our aim to inspire active communities, we realise our facilities have to be as inviting as possible. This refurbishment will truly revitalise the swimming pool within Haddington for the benefit of all.”

Local charity and East Lothian Sports and Leisure provider, enjoyleisure outlines plans to future-proof its services, as the organisation faces its most challenging financial year to date.
